Born in Salford, Manchester, England in 1951. Boy soprano in Church choirs.
Took brass lessons at school on Baritone then Euphonium. Played as principal Euph player in various brass bands, both school and adult bands. Eventually moved to Bass Tuba when attending Music College from 1969. Orchestral playing ensued. Played with the British Youth WInd Orchestra.
Began composing at 15. Teaching put a halt to that for many years. Did much arranging for Club singers. Left teaching and carved wooden rocking horses for a time. Also produced hand carved leather items too.
Moved into local politics as a councillor for some 15 years, putting my cultural background to good use by organising many Concerts and events. Eventually elected as Civic Mayor of my Borough (one of the Greater Manchester Boroughs)
Through my council work I came into contact with many fine musicians/composers/organisations and as a result, I returned to composing.
